Confession and Thanksgiving

Ps 81:10-16

10 I am the LORD your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 "But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me.
12 So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels.
13 "Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies, And turn My hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him, But their fate would endure forever.
16 He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; And with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you."

Dear God we sit here with open mouths waiting to be filled. Our mouths were filled with corruption, filth and lies this week. All of this sin proceeded from a corrupt heart and flesh that wars with Your Spirit. Forgive us and subdue our enemy the Devil and our adversary the flesh.

Your law is a mirror and we hate what we see. For our sin is black against the blinding white of your word. In it we see that we are idolaters, murderers, liars and covetous. Who will deliver us from this body of death? It is through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom we now lift our private sins.

Thank you for hearing and forgiving us this morning. Our adulteries, covetousness, and lies are so overwhelming at times, thank you for the rest we have in Christ. May He be glorified as we proclaim His grace to a world that is bound by the same sin.

Deepen our desire for you and your word. May it be honey and wheat to us as we gorge ourselves on Christ who is there revealed. Let us see Him now as we sing, read, pray and attend to the message Pastor Bryant has for us. It is in the name of Christ who gave His life a ransom for many that we pray. Amen.

Isa 40:10-11

10 Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand,
And His arm shall rule for Him;
Behold, His reward is with Him,
And His work before Him.
11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He will gather the lambs with His arm,
And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young.

Dear God shepherd your people as we gather to worship and proclaim your greatness. Feed us with your word that we might have life. Carry us with your strong right arm that is mighty to save. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil that our lives might be salt and light to a rotting and dark world.

Father of all comforts, watch over those in our congregation who are sick. Stir us up to pray for one another though this week and use our prayers as a means of healing in our loved one's lives.  For all those who are suffering the minor ailments common in a fallen world we ask that you return them to us quickly.

We pray for those missionaries you have given us to support.

Now as we continue in our worship I pray that the word of God would break stony hearts. Use the preached word to save sinners, continue saving saints and to spark revival and reformation in our congregation and our city.
