Hiding In The God Who Does Not Hide
Holy Father,
You are the God who acts and who reveals and who has
spoken. You are hidden to all but those with eyes of faith. O Lord,
give us eyes to see and ears to hear.
We assemble before you to hear your Word. Give us
minds to understand your Word and hearts to obey it. May the
meditations of our hearts in response to your Word be acceptable in
your sight. Placard before us the mighty Christ, our Captain and our
Conqueror, as the Scriptures are read and preached.
Hide the one preaching this morning behind the cross,
that his sins will not be a stumbling block. Make him instead a
thundering voice of your truth for your glory and power, mighty to save
and full of tender mercies. Pour out your Holy Spirit on him,
and give him weighty words, lofty thoughts, and heart-searching
applications.
And as we draw near to worship through the ordinance
of communion, may we partake worthily, discerning the body and blood of
our Lord, which was spilled out for us. Magnify Him and His grace
before us and then in us. Be glorified in this congregation.
In the holy name of Christ I pray. Amen.
